چکیده

Direct, point-by-point inscription of fiber Bragg gratings by infrared femtosecond laser had been recently reported. Response of these gratings to annealing at temperatures in range 500C to 1050C is studied for the first time. Gratings inscribed by infrared femtosecond lasers were thermally stable at temperatures up to 900C, representing a significant improvement in comparison with the “common”, UV-inscribed, gratings. Annealing at temperatures up to 700C increased grating reflectivity.

Femtosecond-laser-inscribed sampled fiber Bragg grating with ultrahigh thermal stability.

We have successfully fabricated a series of sampled fiber Bragg gratings with easily adjustable sampling periods and duty cycles using an 800 nm femtosecond laser point-by-point inscription. The thermal stability of the fabricated fiber gratings was investigated using isochronal annealing tests, which indicated that the fiber gratings are capable of maintaining high reflectivity at temperatures...

Characterizing femtosecond laser inscribed Bragg grating spectra.

We present numerical modeling based on a combination of the Bidirectional Beam Propagation Method and Finite Element Method that completely describes the wavelength spectra of point by point femtosecond laser inscribed fiber Bragg gratings, showing excellent agreement with experiment. We have investigated the dependence of different spectral parameters such as insertion loss, all dominant cladd...

Point-by-Point Femtosecond Laser Inscription of Bragg Gratings In High NA (>0.4) Germania-Doped Optical Fibre

Using point-by-point femtosecond laser inscription, a fibre Bragg grating (FBG) was written in a high NA germania-doped fibre. Thermal tests demonstrated that the FBG could withstand temperatures up to 800°C without significant effects on reflectivity. Optical loss mechanisms in femtosecond laser-written point-by-point fibre Bragg gratings.

Fibre Bragg gratings inscribed with the point-by-point method using a Ti-sapphire femtosecond laser operating at 800 nm are shown to display strong increasing attenuation towards shorter wavelengths with a large and spectrally sharp recovery observed below 400 nm. The origin of this loss is shown to be Mie scattering, and the sharp recovery in the transmission results from wavelength dependent ...

Polarization-dependent effects in point-by-point fiber Bragg gratings enable simple, linearly polarized fiber lasers.

Fiber Bragg gratings inscribed with a femtosecond laser using the point-by-point (PbP) technique have polarization dependent grating strength (PDGS) and exhibit birefringence. In this paper we quantify the dependence of these two properties on the ellipticity, position in the core and size of the micro-voids at the center of each refractive index modulation. We demonstrate that the effective mo...
